It’s worth to know that Christmas menu can be slightly different depending on regions of the UK. One of the most known dishes at Christmas is turkey. People usually get a frozen one, next thaw it, roast and serve with sauces as they like. Inside turkey can be also the stuffing, but stuffing can has different variants depending on areas. For instance, in North America known version is chestnut stuffing – chestnut puree with onions, fat, breadcrumbs and herbage. People in Britain would like to herb stuffing, mainly with thyme. Meat great fit to roast potatoes. Unusual element of Christmas dinner is pigs in blankets – little sausages with bacon which often surround the turkey. In case of vegetarians in the family, the replacement for turkey is a nut roast contained of roasted chestnuts, vegetables and mushrooms.
Dried fruit with brandy butter are form of Christmas pudding. Different proposition is mince pies – tiny crumpets filled sultanas, nuts cinnamon and other ingredients. Baked and dusted with icing sugar they are great with a cup of coffee or a bit of alkohol for the nice finish of Christmas Eve supper. Popular cake on the Christmas table is started long time before holiday. It is composed of fruits and different nuts and from time to time is filled with whisky. Before holiday Eve supper it is enrobed in layer of marzipan. Wrapped in clared ribbon that sweet looks amazing.
Important vegetable served on Christmas Eve supper is Brussel sprouts, often with bacon. Although many peaple dislike it, brussel sprouts very often can be found on the table at Christmas. Another eaten vegetable on Christmas Eve supper is boiled peas or red cabbage.
